The Indiana Pacers are off to a great start this season, doing much better than many anticipated them to do when this season started. Many fans expected the Pacers to move off of some large veteran contracts to further move towards a full rebuild of the roster.

On Friday, it was reported that Myles Turner is expected to leave his current agent for new representation before the 2022-23 trade deadline.

What does this news mean for Turner’s future?

The question for Indiana Pacers fans is what does this mean? Given that Turner has been in so many trade rumors not only this year but throughout his time in Indiana, this change should raise fans’ eyebrows across the Hoosier state.

Changing agents isn’t necessarily newsworthy. NBA players are always switching their representation for a variety of different reasons and it nearly never becomes front-page news material.

But in this case, with how Turner’s trade rumors have been swirling and heating up for months, this may indicate that Turner now has his eyes elsewhere.

This past summer, the Indiana Pacers made a run at restricted free agent Deandre Ayton, a direct shot at the confidence, or lack thereof, that the Pacers seemed to have in their starting center. While not a lot has been said publicly, there has been speculation that such a move created a bit of a gap between Turner and the Pacers organization.

Currently, Turner is playing at a career-best level, averaging nearly 19 points and 8 rebounds on 47% shooting from deep. This has led many fans to speculate and even hope, that a contract extension can be worked out between Turner and the team. Turner has looked every bit the part of a starting center on a championship-level team.

Fans should hesitate to jump to conclusions on the agent switch

Still, the switching of agents could mean just about anything. It is true that it could mean that Myles has his eyes set elsewhere. But it could just as easily mean that Myles wanted a new voice in his inner circle. Or it could mean that he didn’t like what he ate for breakfast the morning it was announced. The truth is, as fans, we don’t know why Turner switched agents.

As Pacers fans, we tend to jump to the worst conclusion. Usually, we have often been let down or have had high-profile players leave us at the worst possible time. That being said, Kevin Pritchard and the front office have knocked many of the free agency and trades they have done out of the park, and I have no reason to believe they won’t do the same in the ever-evolving case of Myles Turner.
