No. 1 Pacers vs. Grizzlies

So who is the best young backcourt in the game? The team the Pacers could compare themselves to as a benchmark over the next 5 years? It is close between the Cavs and the Grizzlies, but the edge should go to Memphis. Ja Morant and Desmond Bane have been sensational with a diverse skillset, showing an ability to shoot and drive collectively at a high level. So how do the Pacers compare to the high-powered Grizzlies backcourt?

Haliburton and Mathurin: 38.4 PT, 8.3 RB, 12.7 AST, 2.4 STL, 46% FG, 40% 3PT
Morant and Bane: 53.2 PT, 11.3 RB, 12.4 AST, 1.7 STL, 47% FG, 41% 3PT

At first notice, you will see that Morant and Bane average nearly 15 points per game more than Mathurin and Haliburton. Additionally, the talented Grizzlies backcourt average more rebounds and nearly the same number of assists on more efficient field goal and 3-point shooting.

As for the Pacers, they do have a slight edge in assists and steals, but clearly are behind in many categories. One positive for the Pacers is that there is slightly more growth potential as the Pacers backcourt are 1-2 years behind the Grizzlies duo.

However, in this head-to-head comparison it is a no-contest, as the Grizzlies currently have the better duo. However, we may be having a much different conversation a few years from now.
