On Tuesday evening Tyrese Haliburton and the Indiana Pacers formally welcomed hundreds of local individuals from shelters around the greater Indianapolis area to Gainbridge Fieldhouse for the annual Come To Our House event in order to improve the lives and holiday of Hoosiers in need.

Tyrese Haliburton, along with nearly everyone else on the roster came out to support local individuals and families in need by serving a warm Thanksgiving meal. The event has been going on for over two decades and is traditionally hosted by one of the Pacers players, this year that being Tyrese Haliburton.

In previous years, many others associated with the Pacers such as former players, media members, coaches, and executives have come out to support the event. It is quickly becoming a staple of the greater Indianapolis holiday season.

When Tyrese first came to the Pacers, he seemed to emphasize that he had a deep care for the local community in Sacramento. In a piece he wrote for the Players Tribune, Haliburton talked about how painful it was to leave a place where he was starting to truly connect.

Haliburton seems to have a genuine interest in not only performing at a high level on the court, which he certainly is, but also giving back to the broader community. Something that is important in winning over the loyalty and love of small-market midwestern Pacer fans across the country.

But what is another teams loss is a gain for the greater Indianapolis community. Haliburton has already shown a willingness to give back to the community in a multitude of ways. One example would be a training camp that Tyrese and Mathurin put on for local Indiana kids in September.

Other Pacers’ players give back as well, with a series of camps, personal organizations, and charity events going on around Indianapolis year-round. What is truly special about Tyrese is how quickly he integrated his community efforts into and around Indianapolis and the amount of priority he seems to place on their importance.

I think all Pacers fans are hoping that Tyrese Haliburton is here to stay and it seems that Haliburton hopes to make a mark on the local community as long as he is here.

After all, if Haliburton continues to play the way he has of late, I think the fans will be bound and determined to make sure the Pacers keep him around for the long term.
