What does a day off look like for Myles Turner?
By Zach Pearson
Indiana Pacers center Myles Turner recently did a day-in-the-life video with popular sports medium Whistle Sports. Turner shared how he spends his offseason, his massive shoe collection, and the legos.
What does an offseason look like for the Indiana Pacers’ Center Myles Turner?
When he isn’t traveling the world, Turner has proven he isn’t afraid to tackle lego sets of thousands of pieces. I struggle with the $20 sets of maybe 150 pieces. A great way to distract and take away focus from the everyday work that he puts into building his professional basketball skillset is building legos.
"“Sometimes I just put my phone on do not disturb and just take that time to myself. As much as I grind, as much as I put into my craft, you got to work on yourself too. It is almost like a self-care thing for me”, Turner said."
He has built the titanic and several star wars ships and recently had a life-size replica of himself built as Darth Vader. You read that correctly – it may even be taller than the seven-footer.
The Nike Janoski’s and other low-top Nike’s are his go-to for offseason footwear as he claims to have over 40 pairs and one of every color. He also claimed that he has not worn half of the shoes he owns.
Myles Turner’s favorite player growing up was Kevin Durant, who also went to the University of Texas before Turner. So, you can imagine Turner has a few pairs of Durant’s shoes in his closets.
"“I got the chance to play against Kobe one time. He came to Indiana, it was like his very last year in the league, he was on his mamba tour, and it was his last game in Indy. Our own home fans were booing us because we won the game and Kobe was there and that was one of the craziest experiences to me.”"
That last game was played on Feb. 8th, 2016. Myles Turner scored 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in the game where Indiana won by a margin of two. Paul George was the Pacers’ leading scorer.
When he isn’t building legos, and listening to Tyler the Creator, however, Turner has recently picked up a new hobby. Golf. As seen in the video, his day in life is in his backyard, hitting biodegradable golf balls into a large body of water.
It has been fun getting to know Myles over his seven years (going on eight) with the Indiana Pacers. He is 26 years old and is heading into the last year of his contract before becoming an unrestricted free agent if the team doesn’t extend his current deal. We will see.
Until then, just know that Turner is likely somewhere in Texas building his next lego project waiting to be seen on various media platforms.
