The Indiana Pacers have hosted a handful of workouts up to this point in the offseason. This however will be the first workout to host multiple projected lottery picks.
There will be two separate workouts on Friday, the first will be with a large group of players and one will be a solo workout with Ben Mathurin of Arizona. The Pacers have the sixth pick in this draft and these players are possible options with that pick.
Three projected lottery picks will be practicing with the Indiana Pacers tomorrow. The list includes Ben Mathurin, Dyson Daniels, and Jeremy Sochan.
The first group of players to work out for the Pacers will have six players and will include both Daniels from the G-League Ignite and Sochan of Baylor.
Daniels is a 6’6” prospect weighing in at 199lbs. At just 19 years of age, there is a lot of potential to be excited about. For a team in need of depth at the guard spot, Daniels could be a good fit. His three-point shot isn’t there, shooting just 25.5% from the spot, but he is just 19 years old.
He has reportedly had strong workouts with other teams already that went in his favor in terms of lottery projection. Daniels averaged 11.4 points and 4.4 assists with the Ignite.
Jeremy Sochan is a defensive prospect that I have seen linked to the back end of the lottery. Sochan is one of the versatile players in this draft.
While his three-point shot isn’t there and has a limited offensive game right now, he still has the defensive tools to make up for the offensive production. Sochan averaged 9.2 points per game and 6.4 rebounds last season at Baylor.
To my knowledge, it will be after this first group works out that we will get a solo workout with Ben Mathurin where the Pacers front office can assess his performance solely.
He averaged 17.7 points a game and 5.6 rebounds in his second season at Arizona.
Mathurin is high on my personal draft board and would be one of my favorites for the Pacers to draft in my opinion. I have seen him mocked in the 6-10 range in recent weeks and this will be an important workout for both parties.
