The Indiana Pacers and Myles Turner have been linked to trade talks for what feels like forever. After the trade to move Domantas Sabonis, it seems like there may be a chance to finally put trade talks to rest.
Myles Turner is the longest-tenured member of the Indiana Pacers. Will they extend him after this season?
A report surfaced yesterday from Marc Stein stating that the Pacers organization has plans to keep the big man.
"“Sources say that the Pacers do hope to keep Turner long-term after they previously weighed Turner-centric trades going back to last summer. Indiana instead traded former All-Star forward Domantas Sabonis to Sacramento; Turner has one season left on his current contract at $18 million.”"
Myles was very open this season about wanting a bigger role and now he has that and the chance to be a full-time center on this roster for at least next season. He becomes an unrestricted free agent after the 2022-23 NBA season.
Turner played one game without Sabonis this season as the lone fie on the court and posted some pretty big numbers. He scored 31 points while grabbing 10 rebounds and was 14/18 from the field against the Houston Rockets.
I personally believe that extending Myles would be a good decision. This opportunity allows him to play more of his game rather than sitting in the corner for a catch three and he really excelled in the mid-range/post this season.
His impact offensively might be different than Sabonis, where I think Myles is less of a distributor, but I think Carlisle can get the most out of Turner. He can shoot the ball at a high level for his position and has shown a solid post-game to this point.
I would be excited to see Turner return and to see what he can do with stability on the offensive end to add to his already elite defensive capabilities.
