Indiana Pacers: Positive updates on T.J. Warren and Myles Turner from Rick Carlisle
By Zach Pearson
Myles Turner has been sidelined for over a week now with a stress reaction in his foot, and T.J. Warren has missed over a year for the Indiana pacers, nursing a foot injury of his own.
Warren’s injury timetable earlier this season was “weeks not months” away, but that was months ago.
The Indiana Pacers held practice on Jan. 27, 2022, where Rick Carlisle announced two positive updates on key players to the team’s starting lineup.
T.J. Warren has missed more time with his foot injury than Victor Oladipo did with his ruptured quadriceps tendon. He has been out for over 380 days with this injury rehab.
It was announced today that Warren had another positive scan and is beginning to play one-on-one for the first time since his surgery on Jan. 05, 2021. The report came from Scott Agness of Fieldhouse Files.
We have not seen Warren in a game since Dec. 29, 2020. He scored 17 points against the Boston Celtics and fouled out of the game.
Myles Turner has missed the last six games due to that stress reaction. The Pacers have won two of their four games played in that span.
"Carlisle said this at practice today, “Myles (Turner) had another scan. The news is good. Doctors are seeing what they want to see. … The hope is that he can return at some point sooner than later”."
This is good to hear from Carlisle on Turner’s status, but the Pacers should be in no rush to get him back. The trade deadline is coming close and if this injury worsens the potential returns for Turner, the Pacers should be patient.
"“There’s an increasing likelihood that Myles Turner remains in Indiana beyond the deadline before the Pacers engage trade overtures come draft time”, Jake Fisher reports."
It is unfortunate timing for both parties – a move seemed much more likely than it does now.
The team announced on Jan. 18, 2022, that Turner would miss at least two weeks, and would then be reevaluated. It looks like he is on the right track.
Prior to this injury, Myles Turner was in a shooting slump, which may have been due to the aggregation in his foot that inevitably had him sidelined.
Turner shot 1/19 from three-point range in the six games leading up to his injury. Turner will begin ramping up his activity sometime soon but is still unclear when he will make his return.
T.J. McConnell was also seen at the Pacers practice facility today doing sprints with assistant coach Jenny Boucek. He was away from the team in the league’s health and safety protocols.
The Indiana Pacers are in unfamiliar territory as they fall lower into the NBA leaderboards. The team is 17-32.
If the Pacers can get Warren and Turner back out on the court, the team will have a lot easier time in assessing what direction it wants to go for the future of Indiana basketball.
