The Indiana Pacers announced Tuesday that Myles Turner has been diagnosed with a stress reaction in his left foot and he will miss multiple weeks.

Myles Turner has been an active name on the trade block along with other Indiana Pacers players this season. With the NBA trade deadline approaching (Feb. 10) teams keeping an eye on Turner will have to think about this injury.

Myles Turner missed yesterday’s game against the LA Clippers and did travel with the team to get a second opinion in LA. The result, a stress reaction.

The Pacers say that Myles Turner will continue to receive treatment and will be re-examined in two weeks, at which time the Pacers’ medical team will re-assess his status.

It is hard to say what this means for his trade value before the NBA trade deadline, but whatever the impact, it certainly doesn’t help Myles or the Pacers.

"“The Mavericks have been frequently linked to a trade pursuit of Indiana’s Myles Turner, but league sources say Dallas had already backed off on its interest even before Turner’s foot injury”, per Marc Stein."

Adrian Wojnarowski reports that “The injury doesn’t make a trade impossible, but it certainly could be an obstacle in Pacers getting max value for him at the deadline. The team can always wait for the offseason to make a deal too”.

He also says that Turner is expected to be sidelined beyond the trade deadline, so teams that are looking to give up pieces for Turner now may want to wait or not give up more assets since his availability is in question.

According to Athletic Trainer, Jeff Stotts, the list of other NBA players to suffer a stress reaction in one of their feet includes Thomas Bryant, Tyson Chandler, Paul Pierce, & Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. The average lost time is ~20 games.

If that is the case, Myles may not be able to return to action until the beginning of March.

Myles Turner is averaging 12.9 points per game and 7.1 rebounds while leading the leagues in both blocks and blocks per game in his seventh NBA season.

Hopefully, this injury won’t keep with Myles for that long and he’s able to return to the court. The Indiana Pacers now sit with a record of 15-29 and are in no rush to get players back to the floor.

This could be a good thing for both Myles and the franchise that is getting closer and closer in the lottery odds game by game.
