Safe to say, the Indiana Pacers aren’t particularly in great shape.

After an embarrassing loss to the Hornets last night which saw the starters flame out before the reserves roared back in the game and made it a tighter contest, the Blue and Gold will not have any time to pout, as they quickly head back home for an inter-conference showdown against the New Orleans Pelicans.

While the Pelicans are owners of the league’s second-worst record so far, in large part due to franchise star Zion Williamson still not having made his season debut, the Pacers cannot rest easy at all, especially with how bad they played in their last three losses on both ends. NOLA will enter this contest as underdogs, but unlike Indy, they have ample momentum to bank on after upsetting the Clippers last night.

On the season, the Pacers are 4-1 at home and 3-2 against the West while the Pelicans are 1-8 on the road and winless against the East, going 0-7 so far. Indiana ranks 15th in offensive rating and 16th in defensive rating while New Orleans sits at 26th and 30th, respectively, in the same departments.

Pacers Injury Report

Chris Duarte returned against Charlotte after a brief two-game absence, which was still strongly felt. Isaiah Jackson is not with the team due to his stint with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. TJ Warren (left foot) remains out.

Indiana Pacers vs New Orleans Pelicans Prediction

It’s difficult and ill-timed to predict a win for the Indiana Pacers, especially with their starting groups’ utter lack of rhythm and consistency in the last three games. While the starters should be fresher with the bench playing most of the minutes last night, the grass may not be greener mentally with the team coming off a winless and demoralizing road trip.

The New Orleans Pelicans, however, have no advantage over the Pacers for this game. Aside from momentum, the Pels will have the same handicap, as they will also play on the second night of a back-to-back. Unless they can defend as well as they did against LAC, I don’t see a clear path for them to clinch a win at the Fieldhouse, notwithstanding how bad Indiana has looked as of late. Still, the rules of caveat emptor apply here.
