The Indiana Pacers must avoid further injury
Not all goals are as easy to accommodate as others. Injuries can happen at any given time in a variety of ways but that doesn’t mean the Pacers cannot hope for an injury-free stretch during semi-meaningless competition. Indiana needs to stay as healthy as possible heading into their season opener after a brutal start to their training camp.
Already being down two starters and a key bench piece is going to make things very tough for Indiana when they travel to Charlotte on Oct. 20. Their main focus for the next two weeks has to be to stay healthy and potentially get their two starters back in time for the first real action of the season.
In order to get a feel for how Rick Carlisle fits this roster, we need to see them at full strength. While it is hard to control injuries completely, a good first step will be to manage their minutes in the preseason. Rather than playing the starters more than necessary, the main purpose of their playing time should be to build a little bit of chemistry.
The four exhibitions will be a nice tune-up before the real thing but we are all aware of how quickly the injury bug can strike this team. Let’s just hope things go well in the early stages of the season.
