A reunion with George Hill could improve the Indiana Pacers backcourt depth

This trade is basically a balancing scale of what both squads need more. The Philadelphia 76ers badly need shooting and reliable second-unit scoring. Conversely, the Indiana Pacers need to load up on its backcourt depth with TJ McConnell’s impending free agency.

Thus, a one-on-one swap with Jeremy Lamb for a reunion with former Pacer George Hill should benefit both parties. While Hill is past his prime, there’s a reason why he’s stuck with contenders in recent seasons. The veteran guard won’t put up eye-popping numbers, but his reliability on offense, spot-up shooting, defense and experience makes him a viable player to play in tense situations and in the postseason.

Even if McConnell is retained, having Hill as an added layer of depth, especially with Aaron Holiday’s days on Indy being numbered, will provide the team with a locker room voice and Rick Carlisle with another veteran guard whom he can trust with the ball in spurts.
