Indiana Pacers: 3 ways they could waste this offseason
By Luke Parrish
The Indiana Pacers cannot bring back the same roster once again
The next phase relates to the others but the Pacers cannot try to run it back with the same roster once again. At some point, they have to just accept the fact that the current roster is not built to win when it matters and shaking things up is the only option.
Instead of always blaming the coaching staff for their struggles, the Pacers need to understand that running a two-big lineup with the same core rotation year in and year out is not going to get them deep into the playoffs. It’s time to make some moves that bring out the best in everyone, regardless of where they play next season.
Trading one of the centers is always going to be an option after constant struggles to build around both of them together. Swapping either Myles Turner or Domantas Sabonis for wings or guards who can fill out the rotation has to be on the table.
With McDermott and McConnell potentially leaving this summer, finding ways to replace them without paying a hefty fee should be on the radar as well. With options to replace them in the draft, the Pacers have to keep all doors open.
Justin Holiday, Aaron Holiday, and Malcolm Brogdon could also be on the trading block throughout the summer as the Pacers work towards a new future. Considering their contracts and roles, the Pacers have to look into moving them for better fits or players who can stay healthy.
Whatever they do, Indiana has to make some changes prior to the start of next season.
