NBA Mock Draft 3.0: Post-lottery predictions and shockers in the first-round
NBA Mock Draft 13th Pick: Indiana Pacers
After winning the Rick Carlisle sweepstakes, the Indiana Pacers have clearly shown that their core is here to stay. With better health and a veteran coach this time, there’s no doubt that the Blue and Gold has the potential to make noise in the Eastern Conference and surprise a lot of people.
To maximize their current window, Indy has to exhaust all of its options to install pieces who can contribute right from the get go. Australia’s Josh Giddey should be their prime target in the NBA Draft. Alas, he may even serve as the team’s prized offseason acquisition given the team’s minimal wiggle room to make strides in free agency, barring a trade.
At 6’8, Giddey is an unorthodox guard who can pass the ball like a wizard. With a knack for a surgical vision of the court, he should be a perfect fit for the Pacers’ ball movement-based offense led by Domantas Sabonis.. His defense and athleticism are big question marks, but his basketball IQ and foreign flair should easily upend his current weaknesses.
