NBA Draft Mock 1st Pick: Detroit Pistons

The first overall pick is arguably the most anticlimactic one simply because the consensus top player in this year’s draft is THAT good. Cade Cunningham is a 6’8 jumbo guard with a skillset matched only by a few in all of basketball. The Detroit Pistons will instantly get not only a possible generational talent here, but also a much-needed sense of organizational clarity in their rebuild.

Oklahoma State’s phenom is only 19-years-old and possesses all the skills necessary to become a franchise centerpiece. Averaging 20.1 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists in his lone college season, he is next in line in the league’s influx of multi-positional young stars, like Luka Doncic and LaMelo Ball.

Detroit was wise to basically tank this season, as it figures to net them a player who fits the bill of a budding superstar to fit next to their crop of talented young players in Saddiq Bey, Killian Hayes, and even the upstart Jerami Grant. Landing Cunningham will force the Pistons to accelerate their moves and vie to be competitive again.
