Indiana Pacers: Must-sign free agent targets from every West playoff team
Indiana Pacers free agent target: JJ Redick, Dallas Mavericks
It’s easy to scoff at this selection, especially with veteran sharpshooter JJ Redick coming off one of his worst statistical seasons. After all, he found himself playing a significantly lesser role for the Pelicans early this season before getting traded into Dallas while injured, similarly playing sporadic minutes. However, the soon-to-be 37-year-old can still make a difference in spurts.
As long as he puts off retirement, the Indiana Pacers should jump ship in the JJ Redick sweepstakes as it will certainly be easier to cash in compared to previous years. He may prefer playing for a contender, but offering a contract slightly above his market value may entice him to come to the Circle City, where he already flirted signing with in the summer of 2018.
On paper, the fit is easy to envision, with him running off screens and wreaking havoc with his perpetual movement. In a 17-20 minute role, he can easily be an ample source of quick buckets. He’s not much of a defender, but that can be mitigated by surrounding him with big wings. On a separate note, he also brings much-needed veteran leadership and tons of playoff experience which will be valuable down the stretch.
