With all of the recent injuries in the frontcourt, the Indiana Pacers are bringing back an old friend on a two-way contract. Amida Brimah, who has been with the Pacers a couple of times in his young career, is back as the team deals with a lack of size.

Indiana was forced to play an undersized lineup against the Thunder on Wednesday after consistently playing a two-big lineup when everyone is healthy. That left Oshae Brissett at center, which went much better than expected for a guy that’s only 6-foot-7.

Amida Brimah joins the Indiana Pacers again

To keep from having to deal with that size disadvantage again, the Pacers have brought back Amida Brimah after releasing him prior to the season. He signed one-year deals in each of the past two seasons but has not seen the floor for them in that span. With several question marks surrounding the center position, Brimah could see some action this season.

Brimah tore his ACL last season and was signed again prior to 2020 as a late addition prior to the season but was waived prior to the season. However, he did spend time with the Mad Ants at the G-League bubble site and got some minutes in the process.

In 10 games in the G-League this season, Brimah averaged 8.0 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks while shooting 56.9 percent from the field. His size and length will be a helpful addition to the Pacers as they await the return of Domantas Sabonis, Myles Turner, and Goga Bitadze.

Indiana has had some success this season when pulling from the G-League roster. Oshae Brissett has quickly become a fan-favorite, especially for myself, and earned a three-year deal to stay in Indy. The expectations should not be that high from Brimah as I don’t even know if he’ll ever see the floor, but he does give the Pacers an insurance plan.

Time will tell just how necessary this move was but for now, congrats to Brimah on getting the call up to the NBA!
