A small three-game winning streak for the Indiana Pacers has emerged and Sunday’s win in Memphis was a big one. Myles Turner was still out of the lineup with an injury but his absence was not too detrimental as the Pacers fired on all cylinders offensively.
Several key Pacers stepped up on Sunday as finished the mini road trip with another win. Caris LeVert, Domantas Sabonis, and others showed up in a major way as Indiana fights for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
The Indiana Pacers find what it takes to win in Memphis
An explosive first quarter set the tone for Indiana after they erupted for 45 points and had a safe cushion. Indiana did not score fewer than 26 points in any quarter on Sunday, finishing the night with a staggering 132 points.
We were once again treated to a masterpiece from Caris LeVert, who posted his best scoring performance since joining the Pacers. He scored 34 points on an impressive 14-of-20 shooting. If he can continually have similar success as a shooter, he can be the future of this team without question.
Another strong night from Domantas Sabonis helped carry some of the offensive load as well as the rebounding aspect, which has been nothing short of bad for Indiana this season. He added 18 points, 15 rebounds, and nine assists. The only concern with Sabonis playing as the primary center as Myles sits is the defense down low and that was evident again. Jonas Valanciuanas was a problem for Memphis, scoring 34 points and 22 rebounds on the night.
Another Pacer nearly finished with a triple-double as well. Malcolm Brogdon was on fire offensively all night as he racked up 29 points, 11 assists, and nine rebounds while shooting 5-of-9 from three-point land. When Brogdon is hitting his shots, the Pacers are a completely different team.
The bench was not quite the same as we’ve grown accustomed to over the past few nights but it still came through when needed. Aaron Holiday was not much of a factor after being the team’s best scoring threat lately, scoring just two points on Sunday. Goga Bitadze and T.J. McConnell were both incredible in their roles though.
Goga scored seven points and six rebounds while adding five blocked shots in his best effort to replicate Turner. McConnell was aggressive down the final stretch in helping Indiana pull out the late win.
This game can be looked at as a blueprint for Indiana’s success when factoring in Turner’s absence from the lineup. With LeVert being able to pop off for 30 points a night, that gives the Pacers three players with an offensive mindset worth planning for.
