The NBA has postponed All-Star Weekend for the Indiana Pacers until 2024.

Many fans were excited to learn that Indianapolis was set to host the 2021 NBA All-Star Weekend. After events out of the city’s control, the All-Star Game has been cancelled for the 2020-21 season, meaning the Indiana Pacers do not get to host the event.

However, Indiana will get that chance in the near future. According to Shams Charania, the NBA postponed Indianapolis’ chance to host until the 2023-24 season. Now, Indianapolis will host the event in Feb. 2024. While missing out on the event this year is a tough pill to swallow, it is comforting to know that the Pacers do not have to miss out entirely.

Indiana is fortunate to still get their opportunity, albeit later than expected. All-Star Weekend is a huge event for fan engagement, interaction, and overall experience. With the NBA canceling the entire weekend of events for this season, Indiana could have easily been put aside and lost the right to host the event.

The Indiana Pacers will have plenty of extra time to work out the details on what they want to make of the big weekend, and can still sit back and watch other cities host it in 2022 and 2023. For now, Pacers fans will have to put their fandom aside and wait another few years before the best players in the NBA arrive in the Circle City.
