The Indiana Pacers have hired Calbert Cheaney as an assistant coach.
Calbert Cheaney, a native of Evansville, Indiana, has joined the Indiana Pacers as an assistant coach. Cheaney played at Indiana University from 1989-1993 and was a three-time All-American. he is also the Big Ten’s all-time leading scorer.
Indiana has been a memorable place for Calbert Cheaney, and he has brought plenty of basketball memories to fans of hoops across the state. He spent 13 seasons in the NBA as a player and has been around the game since retiring from his playing career.
Cheaney has experience on an NBA coaching staff already under his belt, spending two seasons on staff with the Golden State Warriors from 2009-2011. After bouncing around college hoops as an assistant, including time with the Indiana Hoosiers as Director of Basketball Operations, he spent time in the G-League as an assistant coach. Now, Cheaney returns to the NBA with the Pacers.
The Pacers announced their coaching staff last week but seem to have added more talent to the group. Cheaney joins the likes of Kaleb Canales, Bill Bayno, and Greg Foster on Nate Bjorkgren’s coaching staff. The group provides a lot of NBA and basketball experience.
