Indiana Pacers: Four college stars that could slide in the draft
By Luke Parrish
Markus Howard – PG (Marquette)
Markus Howard is another big-time college player who will find a role in the NBA thanks to his ability to score. He averaged 21.6 points over four seasons at Marquette, including 27.8 points per game as a senior in 2019-20.
Howard was an efficient scorer for the Golden Eagles. He knocked down 42.7 percent of his three-point shots throughout his career and shot at a high volume. He attempted over eight three-point shots per game in three of his four seasons. As a freshman, Howard hit a remarkable 54.7 percent of his threes.
He may not be a complete point guard as he struggles with turnovers and lacks a dynamic passing ability, but Markus Howard is a pure scorer. Throughout his career, Howard averaged just 3.1 assists with 3.0 turnovers which is not a great number for a primary ball-handler.
As long as he continues to hit shots and put up points, Markus Howard will carve out a consistent role in the NBA. It may take some time for him to hit an NBA floor but Howard is one of my favorite options for Indiana as the draft draws closer.
