There is much confusion on what Victor Oladipo’s future is looking like in Indiana so let’s take a look at the best and worst-case scenarios.
The future of Victor Oladipo and the Indiana Pacers has been a consistent topic of discussion this offseason. His tenure in Indiana has been full of ups and downs, leaving both sides with a murky future ahead. Oladipo wants to secure a max contract while the Pacers appear to be a bit hesitant in giving him one.
With a big decision to be made, here are the best and worst-case scenarios surrounding the Victor Oladipo situation.
Best-case scenarios for Victor Oladipo:
Victor Oladipo returns to All-NBA/All-Star form by the midseason mark. If this were to happen, it could split off into two other scenarios. In the first scenario, which sees Oladipo getting back to his highest level and the Pacers probably having success, he decides that he will sign an extension to stay in Indiana.
That happening would get rid of any drama that may be happening at the time and we would have a core of good players locked up for multiple years in Brogdon, Oladipo, Turner, Sabonis, and Warren if you want to count his shorter contract.
The other good scenario is that he returns to his best form and requests a trade. This may sound odd, but if he is back up to form and actually requests a trade instead of walking, the Pacers could probably get decent value back for him to add to the core of the team. A player like Caris LeVert would probably be high on the list of trade options for All-NBA Oladipo, with the Nets wanting to add a third star even though you could argue they have that in LeVert already, but I digress.
We don’t fully know how the landscape of the league is going to look next year so we can’t guess who would be willing to bring in Oladipo on the last year of his contract, but if he’s getting dealt hopefully he’s back to form to get back the best value we can.
Let’s hope one of these options occurs.
