Indiana Pacers: 3 surprise candidates for head coach
By Luke Parrish
Becky Hammon
This one may not be as much of a surprise given the respect and expectations of Becky Hammon in NBA circles. Hammon, an assistant for the San Antonio Spurs, is a name to really keep an eye on this offseason. She may become the very first female head coach in NBA history, and with good reason.
Hammon has studied under one of the NBA’s best coaches in Gregg Popovich. While he has likely taught her plenty and mentored her in her own coaching career, she has made a name for herself as well. Since joining the Spurs’ coaching staff in 2014, Hammon has been nothing short of incredible.
She coached the Spurs Summer League team in 2015 and won the Summer League title in Las Vegas. She was also the first female to ever be part of an All-Star coaching staff back in 2016. In just six short years, Becky Hammon has become one of the hottest names on the coaching market.
If she decides to leave San Antonio for a head coaching position of her own, the Pacers would be wise to give her a shot. With a 21-year career in basketball and a long list of accolades, both as a player and coach, Hammon is ready to lead an NBA team.
