Lamb’s future in Indiana

When the Pacers arrived at the bubble in Orlando, they had plenty of questions to answer. Their minutes were bound to look different with Victor Oladipo on the fence and injuries on the horizon for T.J. Warren and Domantas Sabonis. Jeremy Lamb’s absence opened the door for Edmond Sumner to see the floor and make a case for his own future in Indiana.

T.J. Warren caught fire to kick things off in Orlando before fizzling out once the playoffs came around. But if Warren taught us anything, it is that he is capable of being a go-to scorer when it matters. The Pacers have a gem in Warren and may look to build an offense around his ability to create shots.

Aaron Holiday also continued to show plenty of flashes down in Orlando and looks like a young building block for the Pacers. He fit in with the Pacers starting lineup when other guards were out, and he managed the second unit when he moved to the bench. His minutes will continue to increase next season.

With young pieces on the bench and leaders in the starting unit, Jeremy Lamb will be lost in the shuffle at times, which we saw this year. If the Pacers decide to retain Justin Holiday in free agency, Lamb’s role will take even more of a hit.

Assuming Lamb stays in Indiana to ride out his contract, he will most likely be a rotational bench piece who will be asked to provide scoring on the second unit. However, the potential of a trade is always on the table, especially considering his remaining salary and the depth in front of him. If the new head coach does not value Lamb in the offense, he could very much be on his way out.
