Indiana Pacers: Best player in franchise history from each PAC-12 program
Best Indiana Pacers Player from UCLA: Reggie Miller
A Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer, five-time NBA All-Star, and three-time All-NBA honoree, Reggie Miller will forever be the face of the Indiana Pacers.
Fans were initially upset when he was picked 11th overall in the 1987 draft because Indiana basketball legend Steve Alford was still on the board. He spent his rookie season as a backup while averaging 10.0 points per game.
The following season, Miller made significant strides, establishing himself as a sharpshooter. He knocked down more than one 3-ball per game, shooting 40.2 percent from deep.
Miller’s first All-Star nod came in 1989-90 in the best statistical season of his career.
Miller dropped 24.6 points per night and added 3.8 assists, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in just his third NBA season. In all, he guided the Pacers to six Eastern Conference Finals and the 2000 NBA Finals while averaging 18.2 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.1 steals over 18 seasons as a pro.
Known as a scrawny trash talker, Miller holds 21 franchise records including games played, win shares, field goals, 3-pointers, free-throws, points, assists, and steals.
Upon his retirement, Miller was the league’s all-time leader in career 3-pointers but was later surpassed by Ray Allen and is likely to fall to third behind Stephen Curry in the near future.
Since his retirement, Miller has become a regular analyst for TNT.
