Pacers draft targets: Desmond Bane

A native Hoosier, Desmond Bane could be the Victor Oladipo of the second unit for Indiana. An incredibly strong guard that stands at 6-6, 215 pounds, Bane could hold his own against guards or forwards on the defensive end.

Offensively, he shot 43.3 percent from beyond the arc with 4.1 attempts per game over his four-year career has a Horned Frog.

Most impressively, Bane uses his shooting ability to keep the defense guessing. With “in-the-gym” range, most of his shots already come from NBA distance. Strength and offensive ability allow Bane to easily get to the basket when defenders over-commit to guarding him around the perimeter.

Bane is the perfect candidate to plant in a corner in the Pacer offense. He can knock down shots on a drive and kick from Victor Oladipo or Malcolm Brogdon. He could also drive hard to the basket if playing with the second unit that typically sees offensive numbers drop.

Likely to be available in the second round, ESPN has Bane ranked as the 44th-best draft prospect in 2020. He has a skill set that meets multiple Pacer needs, comes at a cheap price, and was the best player on a Big 12 school for four years. The Pacers should jump on Bane if he is available when they go on the clock.
