Indiana Pacers: 4 former players that would have helped this season
By Josh Wilson
The Indiana Pacers, all things considered, have done a really nice job of building out their roster while keeping their payroll low. Pacers President of Basketball Operations Kevin Pritchard has done an incredible job of finding fringe talent to help the team improve on the margins while maintaining long-term flexibility and staying under the luxury tax.
This is best evidenced by Justin Holiday, a player that was seen as a journeyman prior to this season with the Pacers, and his ascension to being a productive player this season.
With the season suspended, it’s interesting to ponder the “what-ifs” of the previous years and wonder how they might have impacted this season. We’ve re-graded a lot of draft picks, trades, and signings here at 8 Points 9 Seconds over the last few weeks.
But what if former Pacers weren’t former? What if some of the impact players of the NBA were still on the Pacers roster, still kicking it and helping the team push forward toward their ultimate goal of an NBA Championship?
For one reason or another, these four players are no longer with the Pacers. Free agency this summer saw most of them leave, and the team welcomed several new players to take their spots.
Though they aren’t with the team anymore, it’s interesting to think about how they would have impacted the team’s success this year and how much better or worse off the team would have been with each of these guys.
