Toronto Raptors could sign anyone this summer

The Toronto Raptors are going to be in an interesting spot this summer. The moves they make could determine their fortunes for the next five years. With Pascal Siakam secured for the foreseeable future after signing an extension this summer, the team certainly wants to build with the intention of remaining competitive now.

Marc Gasol, Serge Ibaka, Fred VanVleet, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, and Chris Boucher are all free agents this summer.

The upside for the Raptors is that they have the chance to shape a real winner if they make the right moves. The downside is that they need to make big moves in a summer where impact-level free agents are going to be few and far between.

The Raptors may need to make a signing or two on the fringes, and Holiday could be a good filler for them. The Raptors pride themselves on their defense (second-best defensive rating in the NBA) much like the Pacers do, and Holiday would fit right into that system.

The Raptors could trade in undersized defense in VanVleet and replace it with lengthier defense in Holiday if they can find another player to pick up ball handling duties.

Propelled in part this year due to signings they made to win the Finals in 2019, Holiday won’t replace the offense that the Raptors need, but the Raptors will need to make multiple signings this summer to launch into the true post-Kawhi Leonard era.
