Malcolm Brogdon is doing more than ever before and adjusting to an evolving role with Victor Oladipo returning

Malcolm Brogdon has been better than some want to give him credit for. I ranked him pretty high myself in terms of total impact players because despite his regression, he has still facilitated at an extremely high level and provided a scoring jolt to the Pacers starting lineup even without Victor Oladipo for much of the year.

Brogdon’s shooting went from elite to average. He hit 42.6 percent of his shots beyond the arc last year, and is only sinking 31.3 percent this year.

It’s easy to point to his volume increasing and suggest that for a reason why. It’s certainly a factor, but one of the more obvious reasons is an adjustment to a new mid-range heavy offense that is impacting the shot profile of Brogdon’s game, a similar explanation for Lamb’s worst shooting season since he was out of the starting lineup in 2017.

Brogdon went from 32.6 percent of his profile being 3-pointers to just 29.6 percent. His raw 3-point attempts, still, have gone from 3.8 last season to 4.1 this year, showing just how drastically Brogdon’s usage has gone up and how his role has changed (his actual usage percentage has jumped five percent).

Still, dropping more than 10 percent off your accuracy is not typical, and something to keep an eye on for the Pacers.
