T.J. Warren

Thanks to the Phoenix Suns, it looks as if the Pacers have found a diamond in the rough. Warren has exceeded all expectations this preseason.

The former first-round pick has shown glimpses as to why he was so highly touted coming out of North Carolina State in 2014.

A 30-point performance in the team’s first preseason game sent a message to Pacers fans and the NBA that Warren is willing to take his game and name to the next level. Throughout the preseason, Warren continued his scoring by averaging 13.8 points in the 4 games despite a decrease in minutes as the regular season approached.

Even though Warren gave the Pacers fans a taste of what he can bring to the table, his track record in the NBA as a leader has yet to be seen. Warren has had strong career averages in scoring but the responsibility and expectation of being a player to orchestrate an offense may be new territory for the 26-year-old.

Warren can no question score, but can he lead? In being the primary scorer until Oladipo’s return, that is a responsibility that comes with the job.

Until we see how Warren and the team respond to the volatile nature of an NBA season, we must wait to see who the primary scorer for the first half of the season will be.
