Indiana Pacers off-season wrap-up: The 7 departing players
Cory Joseph
Constantly underrated, Cory Joseph was the lock-down defender the Pacers needed in their second unit. He always worked hard and was often called upon late in games to contain the opposing team’s best perimeter player. He fit the Pacers’ culture perfectly, priding himself on hard work, defense, and being a good teammate.
His new home is in Sacramento for 3 years, $37 million. This, again, was too rich for the Pacers, but few had expected the team to retain Cory anyway. He goes to an up-and-coming Kings team that needs his defense and veteran presence.
Wesley Matthews
Wesley Matthews came to the team in the middle of the season after Victor went down with his injury. He started as the team’s shooting guard and was an immediate boost to the team going into the playoffs. He brought shooting, defense, and a nice jolt of fire and energy that the starting lineup needed.
He is now off chasing titles in Milwaukee, signing there for the veteran minimum, and looking to help the league’s MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo win his first title. Pacer fans will remember him for his effort, his streaky shooting, and his amazing bow and arrow celebration.
