Indiana Pacers’  second year forward Alize Johnson is doing all he can to make his hometown of Williamsport, Pennsylvania a better place.

The city of Williamsport, Pennsylvania is typically linked to a different sport. Here, Little League Baseball was born, and it’s the site of the annual tournament you can catch on ESPN every summer. However, Indiana Pacers‘ sophomore forward Alize Johnson wants to make Williamsport a basketball town, along with simply making it a better place for kids to grow up in.

Last month, the Alize Johnson Foundation Park opened up in Williamsport, featuring a multi-court basketball complex for the local neighborhoods to enjoy. The opening of the park was a huge event that Alize himself was a major part of, featuring food, games, and a basketball tournament for everyone to enjoy. Johnson spent 6 figures on the project, and it cost local taxpayers exactly $0.00.

Fellow second year NBA player Lonnie Walker of the San Antonio Spurs is also a Pennsylvania native, and he attended the opening of the park and helped facilitate it’s creation as well. Recently, Alize also hosted a basketball camp in Williamsport, and again, Walker made an appearance here too.

Unlike some other community outreach programs you might see some other players slap their names on, Alize Johnson seems to always be incredibly invested in everything like this he ever does. And his efforts extend beyond the basketball court as well.

In addition to buying shoes for kids at his former high school, Alize also had “Zaygiving” around the holidays last year, a day in which he fed over 100 families Thanksgiving Day meals that otherwise would not have had the opportunity. Oh, and he takes care of his own family, too. Here’s a video of him surprising his mom with a new vehicle last year.

The Indiana Pacers have a good one in Alize Johnson. It seems like he truly realizes there are more important things in life than hoops, but he’s also using his profession to bring people together in an awesome way and make a big difference in the world around him.

Fresh off a very promising Summer League, Alize Johnson just had the entire second year of his contract fully guaranteed by the Indiana Pacers. It’ll be exciting to see what he can get done on the court this year, as well as what he decides to do for his community with another year of NBA salary under his belt. Regardless of what type of player he ultimately turns into, the Indiana Pacers should already be proud of Alize Johnson.
