8P9S NBA Mock Draft 1.0: With the 26th pick, the Indiana Pacers select…
By Ben Gibson
No. 20 — Utah Jazz: Coby White, G
School: UNC | Class: Freshman | Height: 6’5” | Weight: 185 | Age: 18
Coby White still sharpening his skills, but he plays the role of a one-and-done prospect quite well.
He isn’t a pure point guard (4.1 assists a game to 2.9 turnovers) but 16.2 points a game with a 53.7 eFG%, it’s clear he’s got a shooter’s touch. He’ll need that shooting to play off the ball unless he can clean up his passing.
With a solid mid-range and pick-and-roll game, White can draw attention to himself and create chances for his teammates, but once again he needs to hone his passing skills more so that he becomes even more of a threat and not just one that relies on his own speed and abilities to free himself from a tough situation.
His wingspan matches his height so don’t expect anything particularly surprising from him defensively, but he’s OK on that end of the floor as well. Grabbing a steal a game isn’t a bad thing, either.
For the Jazz, they get an offensive player with upside and one they hope to mold into a solid defender.
