Paul George’s story is unlike everyone else on this list. Most saw their time in Indiana end for physical reasons. Most had dramatically less success when they left the Pacers.

Paul George chose to leave and has excelled in his first two seasons in Oklahoma City.

While in Indiana, George saw almost constant improvement, with the obvious exception for the year when he missed the vast majority of the season after he broke his leg. George averaged 22.8 points per game over his final three healthy seasons with the Pacers.

On the flip side, the Pacers success bell curved with George as the lead option. Indiana went a round further in the playoffs in each of his first three seasons, culminating in an Eastern Finals trip.

While Indiana went back to the Eastern Conference Finals the very next year, that team had less charm and played less inspired. No other George-led team made it out of the first round. Not completely his fault, but it is interesting that his personal success came while his team’s success declined.

George led Indiana in scoring in four non-consecutive seasons, accounting for 21 percent of the Pacers scoring. At one time it seemed inevitable that George would challenge the Pacers all-time scoring record, then one thing led to another and it never happened.

George finished with 8,090 points in Indiana, rather fittingly it is still good enough for 13th on the Pacers’ all-time list.
