Player grades: Indiana Pacers scorch the Suns on hot shooting night
By Tony East
The Indiana Pacers played an outstanding game from end to end against the Phoenix Suns and walked away with a huge win.
That’s two huge wins in a row for the Indiana Pacers, who had literally no problem beating the Phoenix Suns at home tonight:
So – for starters – 131! That Pacers played a very good offensive game, pouring in 52 percent of their shots and 48 percent of their threes. They could not be stopped against an incredibly weak Suns defense.
And next – 97! With Myles Turner back, the defense looked as stout as ever, and the Suns had a tough time all night. That number would have been lower if it weren’t for a 6 points explosion by Troy Daniels down the stretch.
Pretty much everyone played well. Only two players (Victor Oladipo and Doug Mcdermott) shot under 50 percent from the field, and they both added other important contributions to the team’s success. It was a spectacular team performance.
Turner was great in his first game back, and he even had a nice highlight, blocking a shot on back to back possessions:
What did we see?
Myles Turner didn’t miss a beat
Turner was a beast. He had 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocks in only 27 minutes while also providing sensational defense on Deandre Ayton, who shot 7/16. Seeing Myles play this well after missing time with an injury was incredibly encouraging, especially after his solid run of play in December.
Something may still be wrong with Victor Olaidpo
All opinion here, but I think Victor Oladipo may still be dealing with an injury – or at the least some lingering pain in his knee. He had almost no lift on his jumper tonight and he went 2/11 from the field.
He still played okay defense and was dishing the ball to his teammates (5 assists), but his shot – and his burst – looks a little off.
Alize Johnson… for 3!
Pacers Twitter is obsessed with Alize Johnson, and for good reason. He’s a joy to watch and oozes energy and potential. Some of his stat lines in Fort Wayne are almost unbelievable.
Tonight, he hit a three-pointer, and it was glorious:
Now, the fun part. Player grades:
The Pacers host the 76ers on TNT on Thursday at 7:00. They will look to repeat their performance that they had last time against Philly.
