Adding Youth

Another pro to signing Patrick McCaw is that he is only 23 years old and won’t turn 24 until the start of next season. He is right around the same age as Myles Turner, Domantas Sabonis, and Aaron Holiday.

Essentially, he fits Indiana’s timeline well. The best iteration of the current squad probably won’t come for another couple of seasons, when Oladipo is at his apex and all of the young guys have developed into something.

The Pacers could develop McCaw along that timeline. The team has a great player development staff, as evidenced by their 5 Most Improved Player award winners since the turn of the century. They could try to develop McCaw into a useful rotation forward, one that could help them by at the very least soaking up minutes and at the most giving them some valuable playing time.

Adding youth that could help you win one day is never a bad thing. Sure, McCaw might amount to nothing, but I would bet on the Pacers player development staff over most others teams, and I bet they could turn McCaw into something.
