The Indiana Pacers made the final shuffle to their roster for the foreseeable future, adding Davon Reed on a two-way contract.
The Indiana Pacers have already played a basketball game, but that doesn’t mean they are done filling out their roster. Today, it was announced that they would be signing Davon Reed to a two-way contract.
This move comes just under a month after it was announced that two-way player CJ Wilcox will miss the entire season with a torn Achilles. Wilcox will no longer be a member of the team this year.
The transaction was announced on Twitter by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski earlier today:
This means that once 5 pm EST hits today and Reed clears waivers, he is free to sign the two-way deal with the Pacers.
Reed is a 6’6″ guard out of Miami (FL) University. He was selected 32nd in the 2017 NBA draft and played a handful of minutes for the Phoenix Suns last season, but was waived in order to clear a roster spot for Jamal Crawford just a few days ago.
Reed missed 6 months due to a surgery to repair his meniscus that he underwent soon after he was drafted. Once he was fully healed, he hit the court for 242 minutes of action for the Suns last season, including one start. He posted averages of 3.0 points, 1.9 rebounds, and .6 assists per game.
There is a lot to like about Reed as a prospect and player. He hit 40% of his 500+ three points attempts in college, he is a solid enough defender, and he is long (his wingspan is 7’1″). Playing the most demanded position in the modern NBA out on the wing is a plus, too.
It should be noted too that Reed worked out with Victor Oladipo in Miami this summer:
That connection will be another one added to a Pacers team that is tight-knit. Reed should fit right in.
