The Indiana Pacers made a series of transactions involving Demetrius Denzel-Dyson today.

After the Indiana Pacers made the final moves to finalize their regular season roster on Friday, they were finished making cuts that involved players on the preseason roster. But that doesn’t mean they are done making transactions before the regular seasons starts. They made a move today, bringing in undrafted rookie Demetrius Denzel-Dyson from Samford University.

Denzel-Dyson spent two seasons in college at UMass before transferring to Samford. He came alive after the move, seeing his scoring average climb from 3.3 points per game in 2014-15 to 16.1 points per game in 2015-16.

When it was all said and done, after four years of college Demetrius Denzel-Dyson finished with a stat line of 10.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, and .8 assists on efficient shooting splits of 45.2/41.1/76.6.

The team announced the move on Twitter today:

But then, before we could even research the new guy, the Pacers waived him, which they announced a few hours later in a tweet:

This sounds perplexing, but in actuality, it isn’t. In making this signing, the Indiana Pacers acquired DDD so that they could have his affiliate rights and make him a player for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. They never had any intention of him playing for the Pacers, the signing and waiving was just a formality.

Mark Montieth, who covers the Pacers for NBA.com, reported that Denzel-Dyson was at Pacers practice today, though his level of participation is unknown:

There is a possibility you see a few more moves like this in the next few days, as roster cutdowns are to be formally completed by Monday. The Pacers could add a few more guys to Fort Wayne via this method.
