In order to trim down the roster to the correct size for the regular season, the Indiana Pacers waived Omari Johnson and Elijah Stewart.
The Indiana Pacers entered the preseason with 17 guys on NBA contracts and one player on a two-way contract (Edmond Sumner). That first number had to be trimmed to 15 by the start of the regular season. In order to make that happen, the team announced today that they are waiving two players: Omari Johnson and Elijah Stewart.
Both players had completely non-guaranteed contracts, so this move has no impact on the Pacers salary cap situation. The team announced the moves today on Twitter:
This move finalizes the Indiana Pacers roster, more than likely. That makes Ben Moore the man who will receive the 15th and final roster spot for now, though his contract is very minimally guaranteed.
Omari Johnson didn’t get much of a chance to prove himself in his time in Indiana. He only suited up in one preseason game against the Memphis Grizzlies and missed every shot he took. He was able to pull down five rebounds in the contest.
Stewart was able to make an appearance in two games: the one in Chicago as well as in Memphis. he scored a total of seven points across both games.
It is likely that both players will report to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants as the next step to their exhibit 10 clauses in their contracts.

All that’s left to do for the Indiana Pacers to finalize their roster is to figure out what to do with the second two-way slot occupied by CJ Wilcox. Once that is done, the 15 player roster and the pair of two-way contracts will be filled.
