Darren Collison’s current contract

Collison signed a two-year, 20 million dollar contract with the Indiana Pacers in the summer of 2017.

The catch with the deal: the second season was only guaranteed for $2 million. That was great for the Pacers. If in the first year of the contract Collison didn’t live up to his end of the bargain the Pacers could have waived him and only been on the hook for 2 million dollars this season.

But DC surpassed the value of the contract, and by a mile. That made it easy for the team to keep him on the roster for $10 million instead of waiving him for a lower cap hit. It was a no-brainer, really.

Now, Darren Collison is playing in a contract season, meaning he should be at his best. He should have no problem outplaying the value of his deal for a second consecutive season.
