After playing well in summer league, the Indiana Pacers signed CJ Wilcox to a two-way contract. Sadly, his season is over before it even started.

Summer league was a good time for Indiana Pacers guard CJ Wilcox. He showed that he could shoot the three-pointer as he did in college at Washington, and he proved he has more NBA know-how than most players who played in Vegas in early July.

Because of his skills he displayed in that time, the Indiana Pacers wanted to add him to the squad for the 2018-19 season. On August 3rd, he inked a two-way contract with the team, meaning he would be on the team for up to 45 days throughout the season.

Unfortunately, before Wilcox could even hit the floor for Indiana, his season came to an end. The team announced on Twitter today that Wilcox has torn his Achilles and will miss the entirety of the season:

The Wilcox announcement came on the heels of the release of the Pacers training camp roster – which has his name absent as he will not be a participant.

As the tweet states, Wilcox was injured during an offseason workout. Who knows the timing, but Wilcox missed much after the 2017-18 season after having surgery on his knee, so this injury is a huge setback for a player who needed to have a rebound year.

Wilcox was going to be used somewhat as injury assurance for Tyreke Evans. Evans has missed a copious amount of games throughout his NBA career, so Wilcox was brought in on a two-way to be a stop-gap guard who could soak up some minutes were Evans to miss time. This injury now prevents that, and the Pacers are now more shallow at shooting guard.

Who knows what comes next for Wilcox after this injury. How the Pacers handle him and his contract is yet to be seen. This situation is one to monitor.
