Former Indiana Pacers wing Alex Poythress’ mom has been dealing with kidney failure for multiple years. Thankfully, that will change soon as his twin sister, Alexis, has offered to donate one of her kidneys.

For Alex Poythress, his time with the Indiana Pacers was defined by overcoming adversity and getting a roster spot in the middle of the season thanks to his hard work. However, that is nothing compared to what his mother has been going through.

His mom, Regina Poythress, has been dealing with kidney failure since before Poythress made it to the NBA. According to KentuckySportsRadio.com, there have not been many reasons for optimism in finding an answer to the kidney failure.

Until recently.

Poythress’ twin sister, Alexis Poythress, has recently been deemed a donor match for the failing kidney. She has heroically offered to donate her kidney to her mother and alleviate her pain.

Alex Poythress recently discussed the situation in an interview with the Atheltic‘s Chris Kirschner. His family is hoping the surgery can happen in the near future.

While Poythress’ story of beating the odds to make the Pacers roster after starting the season on a two-way contract is cool, it fails in comparison to what his mother has been through, and he recognizes that.

“We are blessed to be in the position we are in right now,” he said.  He added that he aware of how fortunate he is to be able to play basketball every day while others struggle.

But the story isn’t about him. This is about his sister giving up a body part out of love for her mother. Alexis Poythress is the hero in the story, and she is inspiring to all of us.

Alex Poythress is no longer a member of the Pacers, he is now an Atlanta Hawk. Regardless of where he plays, he uses his mom’s struggles as motivation on his NBA journey, and that makes his Pacers story even more of a feel-good tale.

However, his sister is showing the utmost courage and bravery while keeping their mother pain free. She is a warrior and deserving of your praise. Congratulations to the Poythress family.
