Former Indiana Pacers forward Al Harrington can still ball
By Tony East
He may not be on the Indiana Pacers or even in the NBA anymore. But Al Harrington is still out there getting buckets.
Sophomore year Al Harrington wasn’t a very important part of the only Indiana Pacers appearance in the finals, but he was a fun member of that team. He didn’t make an appearance in the playoffs, but he did drop in 19 points in one of his first games of the season. He has always been a bucket getter.
At his Indiana peak, he was unstoppable. He poured in an incredible 40 points against the Hawks in the 2002-03 season, and his combination of athleticism and shooting made him a tough matchup.
Apparently, that is still the case.
Harrington is currently playing in the BIG3 basketball league, a 3-on-3 league featuring countless NBA players. Harrington plays for the Trilogy, a team that features a handful of other NBAers including Kenyon Martin. Trilogy won the league championship last season.
Recently, the league released its award winners for the current season. Corey Maggette took home the MVP award, and former NBA players won almost every individual trophy. One of those winners was Al Harrington.
Harrington took home an award with a fitting title for him – the Too Hard to Guard award. He is currently eighth in the league in total points, and apparently, other players in the league believe he is a challenge to defend.
Harrington finished his Indiana Pacers career with averages of 10.7 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. While he was never a dominant bucket getter in Indiana, he proved in other NBA stops as well as in the BIG3 that he is hard to guard.
Al Harrington may not be a Pacers player anymore, but he is still getting buckets just like he used to. The old man has still got it.
