Trevor Booker may be headed off to China
By Tony East
Former Pacers forward Trevor Booker hasn’t signed with an NBA team yet. But his free agency period is likely over as he appears to be headed to China.
Trevor Booker‘s stint with the Indiana Pacers was short, but it was very important.
Joining the team just in time to kick off March, Booker immediately became an important part of the Pacers rotation. He was much more useful than TJ Leaf and Al Jefferson, and his veteran know-how made him fit right in within the harmonious locker room. It was a great fit.
But with the additions of Kyle O’Quinn and Alize Johnson in the frontcourt his summer, there wasn’t any more room for Booker in Indiana. And even more unfortunately for T-Book, the market for him seemed to be pretty much non-existent. There weren’t many murmurings of a team looking to add his services to the roster.
All of those factors forced Trevor Booker to have to make a challenging decision. Does he pursue playing basketball overseas? Or should he wait and see if a team gives him an offer with guaranteed money? Technically, he hasn’t made a decision yet, but according to a report from Alex Kennedy of HoopsHype, it looks like Booker is leaning towards playing overseas, specifically in China:
(Hey look, Luis Scola!)
Booker would become the third Pacer to head to China this summer, joining Joe Young and Al Jefferson. It is remarkable that the Pacers were able to be as successful as they were given that three of their rotation players from last season already have lost a place in the NBA.
Booker’s time in Indiana was short – just 24 games including the playoffs – but his impact was felt. The team went 13-7 from the time he arrived until the season ended, and he added some much needed bruising to the second unit. His final stat line as a Pacers was 5.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, and one assist per game.
Trevor Booker was a jolt the Pacers used perfectly to finish out the season strong. He was never filling up the stat sheet, but he worked his butt off every second he touched the floor and offered some much-needed rest for Thaddeus Young. His time in the NBA is now over, but his time in Indiana will not be forgotten.
