What’s next for Damien Wilkins?

This article laid out Wilkins’ time with the Pacers, but did you know he spent the remainder of the season playing in the G League for the Greensboro Swarm?

He clearly still wants to play, based on his G League time and what he told Ayello is the aforementioned article. “I’m not giving up on [my dream]. I still want to play this one season out, and then who knows? (I‘m not going to get) discouraged, I’m a fighter. Always have been. It’s the foundation of my life and my career.”

So clearly Wilkins wants to continue playing. The demand for him may just be too small for that to be possible. But if he can’t play, maybe coaching is next.

He has ties to Nate McMillan as a coach from his days back in Seattle. They are buddies, and Wilkins is already well-liked in the organization. He has proven to be a smart basketball mind. What’s not to like about him being a future assistant coach?

The next steps for Damien Wilkins? Who knows what it holds, but it will likely be something in basketball. Whether it is coaching or playing, Wilkins will do a damn good job at his role. But for now, we can appreciate what he brought to the 2017-18 Indiana Pacers, both on and off the court. Thank you for your time, Mr. Wilkins.
