Victor Oladipo belts a ballad, Lance Stephenson drops bars
By Ben Gibson
Indiana Pacers swingmen Victor Oladipo and Lance Stephenson bless our summer with a pair of songs as we wait for the season to begin.
Eddie Cochran once sang there ain’t no cure for the summertime blues, but Indiana Pacers swingmen Victor OIadipo and Lance Stephenson are doing their best to find an antidote for you.
V.O. released a track called “Song for You” and damn, does the man have pipes.
Seriously, I was thinking this was a professional singer that would lead into Oladipo’s own vocals but no, that’s Oladipo you’re listening to belt out a ballad.
I had no idea the man is a legitimate singing talent. As an NBA fan you get used to players dropping average to well-below average tracks, so to hear a dude just belt out something like that it is legitimately stunning. I’m not savvy enough to tell how well he rates again professional artists, but among NBA players he is in the top ranks.
If nothing else the trade for Oladipo has bolstered the Pacers karaoke squad.
Lance Stephenson drops another banger, you Better Believe It
It’s summertime, which means it is time for Born Ready to give us another track.
The song is a bit formulaic, but Stephenson makes it work. Sometimes simple isn’t such a bad thing either as he does his own sort of call and response.
The only thing I particularly don’t like is the heavy use of auto-tune at the end. Maybe next time Stephenson and Oladipo can team up with Lance on the verses and Victor dropping the hook.
While I’m not as impressed with Lance as I am with Dipo, Stephenson is a decent to above average NBA rapper. He’s shown us in the past he can drop a few bars and isn’t a stranger to following a beat.
Next: Are you taking the over or under on the Pacers?
