Lavoy Allen’s team option is declined, making him unrestricted free agent
In a move that comes as little surprise, Pacers reserve Lavoy Allen will not be on the roster going forward.
We suspected this much after a confusing change to his Twitter bio, but Lavoy Allen will not be coming off the Pacers bench next season. The team has declined the backup big man’s player option, making him an unrestricted free agent this summer.
Allen’s option was for $4 million next season, a very affordable figure, but after drafting two front court players in T.J. Leaf and Ike Anigbogu, Allen no longer had a role on the roster going forward. To be fair, his role on the roster this season was never very defined to begin with.

The 28-year-old played in 61 games last season, starting in five of them. His production often left something to be desired, as his scoring totals were the lowest they’ve been in his tenure as a Pacer.
Allen first arrived to the Pacers with Evan Turner as part of the trade that sent Danny Granger to the Philadelphia 76ers. Allen then signed a three-year deal with Indiana in the summer of 2015, with the last year set to be a team option. That option has now been declined, making it all but guaranteed that Allen’s career as a Pacer is over.
Allen should be able to find his way to another NBA roster next season. He’s still on the right side of 30 and he’s a good rebounder, especially on the offensive glass. Perhaps the Boston Assets could take a look at him if their big and elaborate free agency plans result in no change and the statement that they like their team the way it is.

Farewell, Lavoy. The Pacers are losing a solid contributor and an even better Twitter handle.
