A crucially important part of a team’s draft evaluation process is the pre-draft workout. The Pacers have held eighth workouts so far, with their most recent workout on Thursday afternoon.

A pre-draft workout is an NBA team’s only chance to be completely in control during the entire draft process. Although they still must adhere to a few regulations from the league office (no five-on-five is allowed, for instance), they can customize the drills and workouts exactly how they prefer. The jury is out on how much these workouts actually help a team, as Ben Falk of Cleaning The Glass expertly explains here.

On Thursday, The Pacers held their eighth pre-draft workout of the season.

The six prospects are Jaron Blossomgame of Clemson, Damyean Dotson of Houston, Luke Fischer of Marquette, Justin Jackson of North Carolina, Luke Kornet of Vanderbilt and Donovan Mitchell of Louisville.

More from Pacers Draft

Justin Jackson and Donovan Mitchell are the two clear standouts in this crop of prospects, but as things stand now, it’s unlikely that either will available by the time the Pacers make their pick. The most recent DraftExpress mock draft has Mitchell going to the Pistons at No. 12 and Jackson going to the Trailblazers at No. 15.

Donovan Mitchell has risen up draft boards over the last month or so thanks to his impressive 6-foot-10 wingspan and his two-way potential. It will be a shock if he falls outside the lottery.

Justin Jackson is the old head of the early first round at age 22. He vastly improved his offensive game during his third year at UNC, and a team looking for an “NBA-ready” guy will likely fall in love with Jackson before the Pacers have their chance.
