This could be an overreaction, but Paul George tweeted at a Bleacher Report article suggesting the Boston Celtics should trade the number one pick.

It was just a tweet, but Paul George set off plenty of speculation that his time with the Indiana Pacers is done.

On the day where we wait for the All-NBA teams — and the possibility of signing PG to the biggest contract possible for him — he or someone else running his Twitter account decided to drop a mention in on an article suggesting the Boston Celtics should trade the number one pick. The idea here is that pick would be traded for Paul George.

The tweet is gone now, but the speculation is already at full speed.

There is the possibility that he pulled a Bob Ryan. He could have accidentally replied to the Bleacher Report article. That’s entirely possible.

But with all the speculation that was already smoldering, this only throws gasoline on the rumors and makes it a full blown tire fire.

Pacers fans were already uneasy after his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel. George and Kimmel talked about the speculation of him leaving for the Los Angeles Lakers, and PG did little to dismiss those rumors.

Again, this is all speculation — it was only a tweet after all, and not anything more than a black reply — but that isn’t going to set well with the Indiana Pacers fanbase.

This season ended with a whimper as the Pacers were swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers. Outside of the designated player exception, what do the Pacers have to offer Paul George but the hope the team gets good enough to beat LeBron James in the next few years?

With the Celtics and Lakers getting the top two picks and these sort of the rumors of Paul George’s impending exit, something like this is going to fuel speculation that he is leaving the Indiana Pacers.
