The 2015 NBA Draft is behind us now and the Indiana Pacers took Myles Turner and Joseph Young in hopes of building itself back into a title contender. The 8 Points, 9 Seconds staff has weighed in with their opinions on the draft, but what is the general consensus on Indiana’s newest editions?

Let’s take a look.

B+. The Pacers were rumored to be after Kaminsky and thinking about adding Murray State’s Cameron Payne, but in the end the team went with a far less polished prospect in the Texas center. The 19-year old Turner can swat shots, he has good form on his shot (even if they aren’t falling much yet) and he’s a remarkable athlete, but he’s also quite raw and he’s being added to a team that is attempting to regain its championship contender status sooner rather than later. It’s an odd fit, but you can’t deny the talent Indiana just added. Oregon’s Young is a little wispy at this point, but he has first-round talent and has a good chance to make the roster as the Pacers seek out more scorers that can push the ball. These are two pieces that fit the team’s new up-tempo plan. It may take a few years for this thing to fall into place, however, with the 2015 draft acting as a cornerstone of sorts. (<a href=. @KDonhoops. Yahoo Sports — Ball Don't Lie. KELLY DWYER

B. Turner is loaded with potential. He’s got elite size for his position. He’s an excellent defender, and he’s got an offensive skill, too — he can really shoot the ball well. The Pacers are just going to have to be patient. He’s not ready to help now and might not be for a couple of years. But if he develops, he is a top-5 talent. Young is ready now, however. He’s one of the best scorers in the draft. He’s quick, a lethal shooter and has a knack for finding the basket. He should be able to give the Pacers instant offense off the bench right away. Turner is a huge talent. He rebounds, blocks shots and can shoot it from three. He’s a stretch-five with skills no other pivot has in the NBA today. But he’s a project. Physically, Turner needs to add a lot of lower body strength, and his numbers against good teams last year were far inferior to the inflated numbers he put up against bad ones. But here, at No. 11, he’s a quality, medium-risk, high-reward player. (<a href=. @ChrisMannixSI. Sports Illustrated. CHRIS MANNIX. B+

SCOTT GLEESON. B-. Myles Turner (No. 11) isn’t a finished product, but his tools and versatility make this a good pick. Joseph Young (No. 43) was a lights out scorer at Oregon and knows how to create for himself as an undersized guard. His chip-on-your-shoulder style could be a nice boost. (<a href=. @scottmgleeson. KEVIN O'CONNOR. A. This is the perfect situation for Turner to grow into his role in a system looking to play faster. Turner is raw, but was a top recruit out of high school and may have more potential than what was shown at Texas. He can stretch the floor with his three, though he needs to improve as a screener before he can be an elite pick-and-pop threat. There are legitimate concerns about his running form, but it remains to be seen if that problem will sustain.Turner has a long 7’4 wingspan and could develop into a rim protector. With David West and possibly Roy Hibbert hitting the market, Turner should receive early minutes. (<a href=. @KevinOConnorNBA. SB Nation

@sam_vecenie. CBSSports.com. SAM VECENIE. B. Turner in the first round is a pretty good pick, especially given what they want to do with their team. Apparently, the Pacers want to get up and down and run the floor while also keeping their defensive identity. Turner does that, and also will help them space the floor on offense and block shots on defense. The key for him will be to continue to work on his glute strength to improve his running gait and continue to work on his feel for the game on offense. A very solid pick there for me that is worth the risks mentioned above. In the next round, the Pacers took Young, who profiles as a bench scorer if he can get things to work out and can start playing better defense. But he can play next to George Hill, he can really shoot the basketball to space the floor, and he’s a strong pick-and-roll player. I like the fit. Overall, a solid double in this draft. (<a href=

The Pacers filled their needs and chose a first round player with upside which led most of the writers to give the Indiana Pacers a above average grade on draft night. Turner and Young may not have brought a ton of excitement like other more well-known names did, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have talent.

It may take time for either player to develop but it is hard to say that Larry Bird made the wrong choices.
