Seven Big Men Options for the Pacers in the Draft
By Dylan Hughes
Frank Kaminsky, PF/C, Wisconsin
It has a nice ring to it: National Player of the Year, Frank Kaminsky. Because of this title, the casual fan might think the Pacers would be stupid to pass up Kaminsky with the 11th pick. But in reality, there should be better options available.
Kaminsky shows the potential to be a good offensive player in the NBA with his savvy, fundamental skill in the post and perimeter shooting ability, but his lack of length, strength, and athleticism will catch up to him quickly in the league.
As this Draft Express video shows, the combination of no length and strength allowed Towns and Okafor to take advantage of and back down Kaminsky in the final two games of this year’s NCAA tournament. If the player he’s guarding is too big, they will back him down. If he picks up a quick guard or forward, they will run past him.
Also showed in the video, when the quicker guys got past Kaminsky he tended to fall for pump fakes and get off of his feet to make up for being blown by, which in reality hurts him more. He either fouls or gives up an uncontested shot at the rim.
Aside from the range, Kaminsky doesn’t fit have the necessary qualities to be a core piece of the puzzle for the Indiana Pacers.
